Get to know Emily in this week’s employee spotlight.Hi, my name is Emily and I am one of the interns at Giant Voices! I just finished my junior year at UMD and am going into my senior year. I am super excited to be an intern at this agency, and I look forward to learning more about marketing and everything that goes into it!
Where are you going to school?
I am attending the University of Minnesota - Duluth.
What is your major?
I am double majoring in Marketing and Hispanic Studies.
When do you graduate?
I will graduate next year in May 2021.
What is your favorite class?
My favorite class that I have taken is Marketing Research. Throughout the course, I worked on a group marketing research project for Goodwill Industries. My group and I created and analyzed a survey to obtain an understanding of the perceptions of Goodwill. We used this information to create recommendations for the store owners while providing insight that would be useful for future promotions. I found this very intriguing because we were able to apply what we had learned in a marketing research class with a well-known company.
What interests you most about marketing?
One thing that interests me about marketing is the ultimate effects that it has on a company’s sales and revenue. Since taking marketing courses at UMD, I have become more aware of the marketing strategies companies are using and how successful or unsuccessful they are. It’s intriguing to see how marketing tactics are utilized and how the resources and services marketing firms provide impact a company.
What is something most people don't know about you?
One thing that most people may not know about me is that I would love to backpack in either Central America or Australia for a few months. I love traveling, and I think it would be an amazing experience.
What are your hobbies?
Most of my hobbies involve being active. One of my favorite activities is being involved in the UMD Women’s Club Lacrosse team during the school year. When I have free time, I love to go for hikes or walks around Duluth or up the North Shore. I also enjoy traveling and exploring new places. Last year, I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain for my spring semester, and I had the opportunity to travel to new places across Spain and Europe.
